#ENDSARS: Police Open Fire On Protesters In Anambra

As protesters marched to the headquarters of the special anti-robbery squad (SARS) in Awkuzu, Anambra, today, gunshots allegedly by policemen could be heard.

Led by Chinedu Okoli, highlife maestro better known as Flavour; Chibuzor Nelson Azubuike, a rapper better known as Phyno, Kingsley Okonkwo, singer better known as Kcee, were chanting “End SARS! End SARS!” as they moved the massive crowd of protesters.

It was learnt that the protesters converged in Awka, the state capital, from where they moved to the disbanded SARS office to demand that they shut down, the facility.

The facility, situated at Akwuzu, and headed by one James Nwafor, has been accused of gross misconduct, arbitrary arrests, torture and extra-judicial killings. Willie Obiano, while endorsing the #EndSARS protest yesterday had promised that would be prosecuted. Obiano further promised that he will see to it that all protesters that had been detained by the police are immediately released.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, Bonaventure Mokweh, a hotelier, narrated his torture experience at the Akwuzu detention facility. He detailed how young men, who were arrested and kept in detention, were “murdered by the SARS operatives”.

According to the report, the man was caught in the act with the young girl inside an uncompleted building not far from the Pastor’s house where he served as a security man. SHEYITAINMENTBLOG learnt that the security man was apprehended by residents who noted that he has been seen numbers of time with the young girl entering into the uncompleted structure but were unsure of what he does with the girl until he was traced. However, it was gathered that the father of the victim said he is not pressing a charge on the rape case as he would not want the child to be traumatized.
